Theme v1.0.0Shopify Dawn 15.4.1
Troubleshooting
Each entry lists the symptom, the usual cause, and the fix. Most issues come from store data or a setting, not from the theme code.
Installation
Upload fails with “missing layout/theme.liquid”
Cause: The uploaded .zip is an outer archive, or the theme folders sit inside a parent folder.
Fix: Upload the archive whose top level contains layout, sections and the other theme folders. See Before You Begin.
My settings are gone after installing a new version
Cause: Each upload is a separate theme with its own settings.
Fix: Your previous copy still has everything. Reapply settings to the new copy before publishing — see Updating.
Header and navigation
The country or language selector does not appear
Cause: The store has only one market country or one published language.
Fix: Nothing to fix — the selector appears once there is more than one option. See Store Configuration.
A custom mobile menu item or submenu does not appear
Cause: A Parent Menu ID or Submenu Group ID does not exactly match its parent block.
Fix: Compare the IDs in the header blocks letter by letter, including capitals and trailing spaces. See Navigation.
Mega menu tiles have no images
Cause: The menu items link to pages or URLs, or the linked collections have no image.
Fix: Link menu items to collections or products, and give each collection an image. See Navigation.
Two footers appear
Cause: Both the standard Footer and the Custom footer are in the footer group.
Fix: Hide or remove one of them. See Footer.
Design and spacing
Changing the global padding does nothing to a section
Cause: The section has Use global spacing off, so it uses its own padding fields.
Fix: Turn on Use global spacing in that section, or edit its own padding. See shared section controls.
Editing a color scheme does not change a section
Cause: Many custom sections use their own color pickers rather than a scheme.
Fix: Change the colors in that section’s settings. See Typography & Colors.
Cards or buttons show no shadow
Cause: Shadow opacity is 0%, so offset and blur have no effect.
Fix: Raise the shadow opacity for that group in Theme settings.
A section shows an image I did not upload
Cause: The section’s Design image option is showing one of the theme’s bundled demo images.
Fix: Upload your own image, or set Design image to None.
Products, collections and cart
Star ratings are empty or show the demo value
Cause: No reviews app is writing the reviews.rating metafields, so the block falls back to its manual rating.
Fix: Install a reviews app, or set the manual rating and review count yourself. See Product Setup.
The warranty block shows placeholder names
Cause: The product handles in the block do not match products in your store.
Fix: Create the warranty products and enter their handles. See Warranty Upsell.
Collection filters do not appear
Cause: No filters are set up in the Search & Discovery app.
Fix: Install the app and add filters. See Collection Setup.
Complementary or related products are empty
Cause: Search & Discovery has no recommendations for that product yet.
Fix: Add complementary and related products for it in the app.
The cart drawer recommendations are empty
Cause: Search & Discovery returned nothing and no fallback products are selected, or all of them are already in the cart.
Fix: Choose products under Theme settings → Cart → Product Recommendation. See Cart & Checkout.
Theme editor
A section shows an error after a code edit
Cause: The section’s schema JSON is no longer valid — usually a trailing comma — or a section file was renamed.
Fix: In the code editor, open the file and restore an older version from its version list, or rename the file back.
Something broke after installing an app
Cause: The app’s script conflicts with the page.
Fix: Switch the app off under App embeds in the theme editor and check again. If that fixes it, contact the app’s developer.
