Templates & Pages

A template decides which sections a type of page shows. You can create alternate templates in the theme editor and assign them to individual products, collections, pages or blog posts.

Use the showcase page as a catalogue

Create a hidden page and assign page.all-section to it to see many sections together — faster than adding each one to find out what it looks like.

Creating an alternate template

  1. Open the template picker

In the theme editor, open the page selector at the top of the screen.

  2. Create the template

Choose the page type (for example Products), then Create template. Name it and choose which template to base it on.

  3. Build the layout

Add, remove and reorder sections as needed, then save.

  4. Assign it

Open the product, collection, page or blog post in the admin and choose the template under Theme template.

Collection templates

The default collection template hides Dawn’s Collection banner and Product grid and uses the Product collection list section instead, which reads the current collection automatically. To go back to the Dawn layout, show the two hidden sections and hide Product collection list. See Collection Setup.

collection.subscription.json is not used automatically — assign it to a collection under Theme template.

Account templates

The seven customers/ templates are used by classic customer accounts. See Store Configuration.

Templates stay with the theme copy

Alternate templates you create live in the theme, so a newly uploaded version starts without them. Note which products and collections use custom templates before updating — see Updating.
