What is Dynamic Metafields?

Dynamic Metafields is a Shopify app that allows you to create custom forms to collect additional information from your customers. The data is automatically saved to Shopify metafields, making it easy to capture product customizations, customer preferences, order instructions, and more.

How is this different from Shopify's default checkout?

Shopify's checkout only collects basic information like name, email, and shipping address. Dynamic Metafields lets you collect any additional information you need, such as custom engraving text, gift messages, delivery instructions, wholesale business details, and more.

Do I need coding knowledge to use this app?

No! Dynamic Metafields is designed for non-technical users. You can create and manage forms through our user-friendly dashboard without writing any code. However, advanced users can use custom code for additional styling if desired.

Is there a free plan?

Yes! Our Free plan includes:

  • Up to 2 custom forms
  • 1 field per form
  • All 7 field types
  • Live chat and email support (48-hour response)

What are the differences between plans?

  • Free Plan - Up to 2 forms, 1 field per form
  • Starter Plan ($2.99/month) - Up to 10 forms, 10 fields per form, conditional logic, data export, priority support

What types of fields are available?

Dynamic Metafields offers 7 field types:

  1. Short Answer - Single-line text input
  2. Paragraph - Multi-line text area
  3. Multiple Choice - Radio buttons (select one)
  4. Checkboxes - Select multiple options
  5. Dropdown - Select menu
  6. Date - Date picker
  7. File Upload - Upload files, images, or documents

Can I use the same form on multiple pages?

Yes! Once you create a form, you can use the same Form ID to add it to as many pages as you want - product pages, cart page, contact page, custom pages, etc.

Data & Metafields

What are metafields?

Metafields are Shopify's way of storing custom data beyond the standard fields. Think of them as extra information fields you can attach to customers, orders, products, etc.

Where is my form data saved?

Form data is saved to Shopify metafields. When you create a form field, you choose whether to save it to:

  • Customer metafields - Data saved to the customer's profile
  • Order metafields - Data saved to individual orders

Where can I see the submitted data?

You can view submissions in two places:

  • Dynamic Metafields Dashboard: Click "View Submissions" on any form
  • Shopify Admin:
    • For customer data: Customers > [Customer Name] > Metafields section
    • For order data: Orders > [Order Number] > Metafields section

Can I export my form data?

Yes! The Starter plan and above includes data export functionality. You can export submissions to CSV or other formats for analysis or backup.

Troubleshooting

Form not appearing on my store?

Check these things:

  • Is the form activated in your dashboard?
  • Did you save the theme customizer after adding the form?
  • Is the app embed enabled in theme settings?
  • Try clearing your browser cache and refreshing

Form submissions aren't being saved?

Verify:

  • The form is activated in your dashboard
  • You completed the entire checkout process (for product/cart forms)
  • You're checking the correct metafields location (Customer vs Order)
  • There are no JavaScript errors in your browser console
